Insurance in the Baltic States

Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania - the post-Soviet Baltic States - are rapidly becoming western European. They present a concentrated consumer market with growing insurance-buying potential, and an expanding commercial and industrial centre based on the legacy of Russian infrastructure development and a new culture of flourishing entrepreneurial capitalism.

Despite these similarities, the Baltic states are very different. Each has a diverse culture, distinct legislative and corporate environments, and its own set of international relationships. While they share many common goals, the three states are sufficiently disparate to ensure they must be approached as three markets, not one. And although the Baltic countries are rapidly traversing their transition to the west, they retain many legacies of their 45-year membership in the Soviet Union.

Insurance in the Baltic States is an in-depth study, looking at the current insurance environment, including the major players and their strategies, the state of distribution, the financial, legislative and supervisory regimes in each country, and more. It goes beyond strictly insurance-related detail to offer a snapshot of each country’s culture, history, and politics - in order to arm potential venturers with all the information they need to do business in Europe's newest frontier.

Including in-depth case studies of several major local and foreign players, the history of some successful (and unsuccessful) carriers, a tracking of the performance of the former monopolies, market share and league tables, performance data, legislation matrices, and a wealth of additional detail, Insurance in the Baltic States is the most comprehensive survey of the region to be published.
